Attention New Customers:
 
If you have not had utilities in your name with the City of Le Mars, a $75.00 deposit is required to initiate service.  The deposit consists of a $60.00 deposit and a $15.00 set-up fee. The $60.00 deposit will be refunded back to your account provided you are not delinquent more than one (1) time within the year.  Please print and complete the Application for Water Service form and either drop off or mail the application along with a check for $75.00 made payable to the City of Le Mars to the following address, or contact the Utility Billing Department by phone or email.

If you are moving from your current residence and have utilities in your name with the City of Le Mars, please print and complete the “Final” form.  Submit completed form to City Hall or contact the Utility Billing Department by phone or email with your final date of service and forwarding address.

FIELD SERVICES

Meters
All houses have a water meter that must be protected by the homeowner. If neglect has been determined to cause damage to the meter, the business or homeowner will be responsible for the cost to repair or replace the meter.

Backflow
All irrigation systems and cross connections to the water system must have a backflow prevention assembly installed. This assembly must be tested annually and test reports must be on file at the LeMars Water Department office at 1298 18th St., SW.

Leaks
Many times leaks occur in the plumbing of the customer's home. These leaks can be very costly and waste large quantities of water in a short period of time. If you thing you have a leak or hear water running, and need assistance call the LeMars Water Department at (712) 546-5555 and we will check for leaks and try to determine the cause for you. A $20.00 service fee will be charged. (See fee chart for services)

Water Service Lines
Business and homeowners are responsibility for keeping their service line in good condition form the main line to the water meter. This includes but not limited to corporations, saddles curb boxes and service shut-off valves are owned by the business and homeowner and must be kept in good working order. If damage to city mains caused by owners tap or service due to work being done or electrolysis from electrical grounding to water service the owner is responsible for repairs to city mains.

Water Quality
The LeMars Water Department tries to keep discolored water from going into your home, if you are experiencing discolored water please call us at 712-546-5555. To have a service tech check this problem out.

The LeMars Water Department is a member of the Iowa One Call system. Before digging in your yard or in the parking along your street, please call Iowa One Call to make sure that there are no buried cables or pipes. The toll free number is 1-800-292-8989. The city is responsible to locate only City services. Private service lines are the responsibility of the one call ticket owner calling it in.

Meter Reading
Water meters are read every month. Bills are sent out on or before the 21st of every month. We have one full-time meter readers that read the whole town. There is 4250 meter to be read monthly.

SNOW REMOVAL

The Water Department moves snow in the downtown parking lots, intersections and crosswalks. If you see problems please call 712-546-5555 with your concerns.
